Hisar: 35-year-old professor allegedly kills self, 8-year-old daughter

In a tragic incident, a professor at the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS) in Hisar, Haryana allegedly killed himself and his eight-year-old daughter, media reported on March 11.

The 35-year-old professor, identified as Sandeep Goyal, had been battling clinical depression and allegedly took his own life after slitting his daughter's throat with a surgical blade.

On Sunday afternoon, Goyal left his house on his scooter with his daughter, Sanaya, under the pretext of taking her for a ride. Concerned when they did not return, Goyal's wife went to the university to search for them. She discovered his scooter parked outside the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology office, but the office door was locked from inside. After alerting the security guard, they broke open the door and were met with a ghastly scene.


The bodies of the professor and his daughter were found in a pool of blood. Local authorities, including the Hisar Superintendent of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Registrar, and Deputy Superintendent of Police, arrived at the scene to investigate the case.

Goyal, a native of Narwana, Haryana, had been working as an Assistant Professor at LUVAS since 2016. He lived with his family in the government quarters provided by the university. Goyal's father works as an accountant in Narwana.

Speaking to reporters, Assistant Superintendent of Police Rajesh Mohan revealed that Goyal had been receiving treatment for his depression and had suicidal tendencies. Colleagues informed the police that Goyal was undergoing psychotherapy. The authorities are currently examining the evidence and questioning individuals in the vicinity, including Goyal's family.

The police have called in the mobile forensic unit to gather scientific evidence, and the investigation is ongoing. The exact details of Goyal's medical condition will be determined after speaking with his doctor.
