As India gears up to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, which begins on 31st August. This year's celebration marks the first large-scale following the covid pandemic and its restrictions. Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Ganeshotsav is a ten-day festival that starts with Chaturthi Tithi and ends with Anantha Chaturdashi. Devotees of Lord Ganesh, mark his birth during the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month.

The celebration begins with people bringing Lord Ganesha's idol into their homes, as they observe fasts, prepare many delicacies and observe many other rituals. With only two days left for the occasion as preparations are in full swing, here's how different cities across India will celebrate the occasion.

Haridwar, Uttarakhand


Artisans in Haridwar are preparing clay idols of Lord Ganesh ahead of the festival. The idols are made of different colors.

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

Artisans in Bhopal, make their idols from sago and black pepper seeds with no artificial colors, to save the environment.

Vadodara, Gujarat

In Vadodara, artists are giving their idols a finishing touch in the final stages ahead of the Ganeshotsav celebrations. Artists are also making pandals as per this years theme of Ram and Shiva.

Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

Artists in Jabalpur are also finishing their idol creations which will be brightly colored.

Surat, Gujarat

In Surat, Lord Ganesha devotees have organised a Ganesh Yatra, which began late on 28th August. They gathered in large numbers for the yatra.

Bhubaneswar, Odisha

The BMC has allowed people to celebrate the festival following the two years of the pandemic and the festivities are in full swing as pandal are being decorated. There will be no restrictions on pandal visits for Darshan.

Thane, Maharashtra

In Thane's Dhamankar Naka area, a 120ft replica of Ayodhya's Ram Temple was erected ahead of the celebrations. Earlier, the Chinchpokli Chintamani idol of Lord Ganesh was also unveiled amid a huge crowd in Mumbai.

Dibrugarh, Assam

Sculptors in Assam are busy making idols of Ganapati as preparations for the celebration are in full swing in Dibrugarh.
