Getting a confirmed ticket in the festive season can be a very challenging task. There are times when you don't get the confirmed ticket even in ‘Tatkal’ ticket reservations system. If there is an emergency and you have only train travel as an option, there is a way you can still travel in Indian Railways train even without a confirmed ticket.

How to travel in train without confirmed ticket

If you have not been able to get a confirmed ticket due to any reason, as per Indian Railways rules, you may still travel using the waiting ticket.

To use this option you have keep in mind that the waiting ticket should be obtained from the ticket window. Online unconfirmed tickets are not eligible for this option. Online unconfirmed ticket passengers are not allowed to travel inside the train as the ticket money is refunded to the passenger if the seat is not confirmed till the time of preparation of departing train chart.

So after obtaining the waiting list or current booking ticket from the ticket window, the passenger can approach the TTE of the train to find out whether any seat is still vacant after chart preparation. The ticket checker cannot prevent you from travelling if you have this ticket, but you wont get any seat if TTE has no extra seat left in the train.

Special trains
During the festive season, Indian Railways also announce special train to cater the increased rush. Like every year, India Railways has also announced 179 special trains this year. As per Indian Railway, the majority of trains will go to eastern states, including Bihar and Eastern UP. Travelers can avail the facility of special trains who don't find the confirmed tickets in the regular trains.
