Gurugram Rains: Roads turn into rivers; 'smart' city comes undone; ground report
Heavy rains lashed Gurugram, leading to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Private weather forecaster said that many parts of NCR, including Gurugram, could also see heavy rainfall tomorrow as well. "Intensity may increase by tomorrow and entire Delhi may get good rain," Mahesh Palawat, vice president Meteorology and climate change said in a tweet.

Many users took to social media to share photos and videos of waterlogged roads.

"Just a little rain and Gurugram will be stalled. Jam build up showing in map and this would be owing to water loging that happens beyond Hero Chowk. Same water logging issue happens at the same spot every year and no corrective measure taken. Map is already, showing Jam," an user tweeted sharing a screenshot of Google Map mentioning about congestion on NH 48.

In its weather update, India Meteorological Department predicted light/moderate rainfall over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, East Rajasthan and West Rajasthan over the next few days.

India's annual monsoon covered the entire country on Sunday, six days earlier than usual, the weather office said, but rain totals are 10% below average so far this season. The monsoon is the lifeblood of India's $3 trillion economy, deliverng much needed water to farms and restocks reservoirs and aquifers. It also brings relief from the worst of the summer heat.

This year, the monsoon arrived on the coast of Kerala on June 8, more than a week later than normal, and then its progress was stalled by severe cyclone Biparjoy. However, the monsoon made quick progress this week and has now covered the entire country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. In a typical year, rains usually lash Kerala, from around June 1 and move northwards to cover the entire country by July 8.

India received 10% below normal rainfall in June, but some states received as much as 60% lower rainfall than the normal.

But India is likely to receive an average amount of rain in July despite the likely emergence of the El Nino weather pattern, the IMD said on Friday. (With Agency Inputs)
