India's largest private sector lender HDFC Bank has announced that it will hire over 3,000 people in Maharashtra this fiscal as it plans to expand its network in the western state. The bank also announced that it also plans to open over 200 branch...

90 new branches in Maharashtra will be in metro and urban areas, while the remaining branches will be in semi-urban and rural pockets, the private bank said in a statement.
Its present employee base in the state, which houses its headquarters and also a bulk of back office operations, is not known.
At present, its network is in every district and over 280 talukas in the state, and includes 709 branches, 3,200 ATMs (automated teller machines), 1,375 business correspondents, and 15,116 business facilitators.
HDFC bank is massively expanding its base in several states. According to some reports, the bank plans to add 1500-2,000 new branches every year across the country.
Several Indian private sector banks including HDFC Bank are expanding their local branch networks, contrary to expectations that digitalization would obviate the need for physical branches.
The number of branches operated by private sector banks grew to 16,189 in the year ended March 31, from 14,893 a year ago, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. HDFC Bank and Axis Bank accounted for the bulk of that growth, with HDFC Bank's branches expanding to 6,342 from 5,608.
