The Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) has ordered the arrest of rapper Badshah, whose real name is Aditya Prateek Singh, after he failed to appear before the panel in Panipat by a 3:00 pm deadline on Friday. The action follows allegations that his recently released song “Tateeree” contains objectionable lyrics and visuals that allegedly insult women.

The commission has also instructed the Panipat and Panchkula police to seize the rapper’s passport. Three lawyers representing Badshah appeared before the panel and sought a 15-day extension, citing professional commitments and security concerns. They requested permission to present their case via video conferencing, which HSCW chairperson Renu Bhatia declined.

Local complainants Savita Arya and Shiv Kumar, associated with separate non-governmental organisations, were also present during the hearing.

Lawyers claim no summons received, allege politicisation

One of the lawyers, Akshay Dahiya, said they had not received any formal summons and alleged the issue was being politicised. He also accused the commission of bias, claiming they were not given adequate opportunity to present their side.

Dahiya said Badshah had already apologised publicly, removed the controversial content and reiterated his identity as a “proud Haryanvi.”

Multiple cases registered across districts

After the proceedings, Bhatia told reporters that women’s commissions in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh had expressed support. She said two cases had been registered in Jind and one in Panchkula, adding that another case would now be filed in Panipat.

The chairperson also confirmed that a letter had been sent to the National Commission for Women seeking a ban on the rapper’s songs and a nationwide boycott of his shows.

Song release triggers controversy

The controversy began earlier this month after the release of “Tateeree,” which drew criticism from social organisations and activists for allegedly disrespecting women. The music video reportedly showed girls in school uniforms dancing on a Haryana Roadways bus and making gestures that were termed inappropriate.

Following the backlash, Badshah issued a video apology, stating he had no intention of hurting public sentiments.
