As per reports, Shahid had a difficult childhood because his parents divorced when he was three years old. Shahid grew up in New Delhi with his mother, with his father only visiting him once a year on his birthday.



Shahid, who is an excellent dancer like his mother, began his career as a background dancer in the films ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ and ‘Taal’. However, Shahid accompanied a friend to an audition for a Pepsi commercial starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji, and ended up getting the part himself.


He then appeared in a few commercials and was soon featured in a couple of music videos, launching his career in Bollywood. Ramesh Taurani, the producer, saw Shahid in the music video 'Aankhon Mein' and wanted to cast him in a film.


Shahid, on the other hand, was 20 years old, too young, and underweight. Shahid got his first major break after years of hard work in Ramesh Taurani's 'Ishq Vishk,' which won him the Filmfare Award for ‘Best Male Debut’.
