Hanuman Jayanti significance

Hanuman Jayanti is one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Hanuman Jayanti is observed on the Purnima tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra and marks the birth anniversary of Hanuman ji. Devotees celebrate Hanuman Jayanti with great enthusiasm and devotion across the country.

According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Hanuman was born to Anjani and Kesari during the Treta Yuga, the same era when Lord Shri Ram took birth on earth. On Hanuman Jayanti, devotees also remember him as Pawan Putra, the son of the wind god, and as an incarnation of Lord Shiva, often referred to as Rudra Avatar.

Hanuman Jayanti also highlights his childhood stories and divine powers. Mata Anjani lovingly called him “Sundar,” which is believed to be the reason why Rishi Valmiki named a chapter of the Ramayana as Sundar Kand. From a young age, Hanuman ji displayed extraordinary strength and abilities. One of the most popular tales associated with Hanuman Jayanti recalls how he mistook the Sun for a fruit and swallowed it, causing darkness across the universe. To restore balance, Lord Indra struck him with his Vajra, injuring his chin.
