The first signs of illness surfaced while the voyage was underway. A number of passengers experienced fever, fatigue, and gastrointestinal problems. Initially, the cases resembled a routine onboard infection commonly seen during long cruises.
However, concerns escalated after some patients rapidly developed severe respiratory complications.
Deaths and Confirmed Hantavirus Cases
At least three deaths have been reported in connection with the outbreak so far. One patient remains in critical condition, while several others are under medical observation.Laboratory testing has confirmed hantavirus infection in at least two individuals, while additional suspected cases are still under investigation.
