Maharashtra haircut new rates announced by baber community in the state.
Getting a haircut in Maharashtra will now cost more. The barber community in the state has increased charges for haircuts and several grooming services by 20 per cent, with the revised rates taking effect from Saturday, a PTI report stated. Representatives of the community say the decision was driven by rising expenses linked to consumables and salon materials, which have become costlier amid global economic uncertainty and the ongoing Iran-US conflict.

Basic Grooming Services See Fresh Price Tags

Under the new rate structure, a standard haircut will cost Rs 180, while shaving has been fixed at Rs 120.

Customers opting for beard trimming will have to pay Rs 150. A head massage has been priced at Rs 180, and hair washing will now cost Rs 120. For premium grooming services, facial treatments will start at Rs 700, while a hair spa will cost Rs 600.

Why Barbers Decided to Raise Prices

The rate revision comes as salon operators face increasing expenses on products and materials used in day-to-day operations. According to office-bearers of the Maharashtra Nabhik Mahamandal, the cost burden has grown significantly in recent months.

The organisation says developments in West Asia and broader economic uncertainties have affected the prices of several items required to run barber shops and salons, forcing operators to review their service charges earlier than planned.

Mid-Term Revision Breaks Usual Practice

Explaining the decision, Maharashtra Nabhik Mahamandal functionary Shyam Askarkar said: "Generally, we revise the rates in January after a gap of two years. However, this time we were compelled to revise them mid-term due to the sharp increase in the prices of consumables and other materials used in salons."

His remarks underline an unusual departure from the community's regular pricing cycle, which typically sees revisions only once every two years.

Over One Lakh Barber Shops Likely to Be Affected

Maharashtra is estimated to have more than one lakh barber shops. The revised rates are expected to influence a large segment of neighbourhood salons across the state.

However, the organisation clarified that it does not represent premium or luxury salons. Such establishments generally charge much higher rates, with haircut prices often starting at around Rs 500.
