'Had to work 7 days after my wedding...': Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain star Shubhangi Atre opens up on struggles and single motherhood

TV actress Shubhangi Atre, best known for her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, has opened up about her early struggles in marriage, motherhood, and life as a single mother. In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, Shubhangi revealed deeply personal moments that shaped her journey.

Married young, forced to work just 7 days later

Shubhangi shared that she was only 20 years old when she got married, and soon after, she became a mother. “It was a love marriage. I had my baby early. By God’s wish, it was a blessing back then,” she said. Now, years later, her daughter Ashi is studying abroad, and Shubhangi says she finally feels settled.

But her journey wasn’t easy.

“I realised very early that I had to work,” Shubhangi told Kannan. “Just 7 days after my wedding, I was giving interviews at a laser cosmetic centre. There were financial constraints.” At the time, her husband, Piyush, worked in sales and marketing.

“I married my friend to escape another proposal”

In a surprising confession, the actress shared that her marriage to Piyush wasn't exactly planned. “I had got a marriage proposal, and to get out of it, I married Piyush. A known devil is better than an unknown one,” she admitted.

Shubhangi said twenty is not the right age to think about marriage, adding, “I married my friend.” The two had known each other from family gatherings.

Facing criticism after separation

Shubhangi also addressed the criticism she faced after separating from Piyush, especially after his passing. Many assumed she left him because of her success in television.

“It was easy for people to judge without knowing the full story,” she said. “They thought I left him because I was doing well in my career. But that wasn’t true. His alcohol addiction affected our lives badly. I tried everything, even sent him to rehab.”

Divorce wasn’t easy

The actress said her decision to divorce in 2025 came after years of emotional struggle. “It wasn’t sudden. Things started going downhill around 2018–2019. I had to prioritise Ashi’s well-being,” she said as per TOI.
