India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has posted to Twitter that he is "gutted" about missing the T20 World Cup due to a back injury.

Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC event starting in Australia later this month due to a back injury which some reports suggested was a stress fracture.

The BCCI officially made the announcement after getting his medical reports, but it was a foregone conclusion that Bumrah would miss the World Cup and would be out for months.

Bumrah said he will however be cheering his team as he goes through his recovery.

"I am gutted that I won't be a part of the T20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care and support I've received from my loved ones. As I recover, I'll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia," Bumrah tweeted on Tuesday.

India will greatly feel Bumrah's absence on the bouncy Australian pitches, especially in the death bowling which remains a grey area for the team.

Fans flooded him with 'get well' messages.

Bumrah, who has a history of back problems, was ruled out of the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury.

The pace spearhead was ruled out for three months in 2019 also with a minor stress fracture but this time, reports said it could well be a case of at least four months of rest and recuperation.

In 2022, Bumrah played only 5 games each in three formats apart from 14 games for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

One reason for his recurring back problems is said to be his slinging unorthodox front-on action which puts a lot of stress on his lower back.

Some users on social media went on to complain that this is what happens due to too much IPL cricket.

Others rushed to his defence it was not about IPL but about the load he has been taking as India's premier fast bowler.
