Gurugram woman fires cook, security guard sends home-cooked food instead; her ‘creepy or caring’ reaction sparks debate online
Priyanka and her roommate were looking for a new cook
According to Priyanka, she and her roommate had recently let their cook go and were searching for someone to replace them. While Priyanka was at work, her security guard messaged her and said he had brought dinner for her.“I was a bit confused. I thought it was because I had helped him out a few times. And I just came from the office, and he was like, ‘Give this to Kritika also.’ And that’s when it struck me that my roommate had told him that we were looking for a cook,” she said.
The food had been prepared by the guard’s wife. Priyanka said the guard also told them that he did not want any money and could send them food every day.
“I don’t know how to feel about that,” she said.
Why the gesture made her uncomfortable
In the caption accompanying her video, Priyanka described the situation as “scary and confusing”. She also explained that she and the guard were not particularly close and that she might have viewed the gesture differently if he had asked them before bringing the food.Priyanka said she and her roommate did thank the guard for the food. However, she also alleged that he had “yelled” at them while handing it over, which contributed to her discomfort.
For Priyanka, appreciating the gesture and maintaining personal boundaries were not mutually exclusive.
“You can appreciate somebody’s kindness and still have boundaries when something makes you uncomfortable,” she said.
