Gurugram Tragedy: Man jumps from 23rd floor with two-year-old daughter, police probe incident

A 38-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 23rd floor of a residential tower in Joyville society in Sector 102 on Monday morning while holding his two-year-old daughter. Earlier, he had told his wife that he was taking the child downstairs to play in the park.

According to police, the incident occurred around 7.30 am when the man took his daughter to the terrace on the 23rd floor. Authorities received information about the incident at around 8 am and immediately rushed to the spot. Both the father and daughter were taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The man had been residing in the society for the past two years with his wife and their daughter. The family, originally from Nangloi in Delhi, runs a public school in Kirari that provides education up to Class V.


“The wife was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when her husband told her that he was taking their daughter out to play in the park. Soon after, residents heard a loud commotion near the tower and gathered outside,” a senior officer said.

Hearing the noise, the wife stepped out to see what had happened. “She saw a man and a child lying on the ground, their clothes soaked in blood. She rushed downstairs with other residents, only to discover that the two were her husband and daughter,” the officer added.

During questioning, the man’s brother informed police that he had been dealing with several health issues since the Covid pandemic. Sources said he had lost vision completely in one eye, while his eyesight in the other eye had also worsened, which had left him deeply distressed for a long time.

The couple had married in 2014. Whenever they travelled to Delhi to manage their school, they often left their daughter with her grandparents. The family has not accused anyone of wrongdoing and has chosen not to file a complaint. After the post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to them.

Police officials said they are still examining the sequence of events, particularly the reason the man took his daughter with him before jumping from the terrace. “The circumstances appear suspicious, which is why we have initiated an investigation,” the officer said.
