Gurugram man, an MBA graduate from UK, arrested for duping women via matrimonial sites

The Delhi Police has arrested a 39-year-old man, an MBA graduate from the UK, for allegedly duping women through matrimonial websites on the pretext of marriage. The accused is a resident of Gurugram. According to police, a Bengaluru-based woman, who works as a cabin crew in an airline, had filed a companied against the Gurugram resident, with whom she had got in touch on a matrimonial website. She started calling and chatting on WhatsApp with the accused, who introduced himself as a businessman in NCR and also wished to marry her.

He later called her to Delhi, proposing to introduce her to his family at a wedding function. He also asked her to bring dresses and jewellery appropriate for the occasion, police said.

The Gurugram man received the woman at the Delhi airport and they had food in the Aerocity food court and left for Gurugram in a car to attend the wedding, police said.


After some time, Gurugram man old the woman that something seemed wrong with the car tyre and asked her to get down to check it. As soon as she got down the car, he sped away with her valuables, police said.

Delhi police later traced his location in Goa and arrested him, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport) Devesh Kumar Mahla said.

It was found that the vehicle was stolen by him from Gurgaon Sector-40 on May 5. The police also said that he was previously involved in three criminal cases and was arrested by Rajasthan Police in a case with a similar modus operandi in Udaipur. After losses in business and his family deserted him and he later started cheating people, police said, especially targeted females through matrimonial websites.

"He played casino games and enjoyed staying at hotels in Goa. He was a habitual cheater and was also involved in three more criminal cases. He was earlier arrested by Rajasthan Police in a criminal case with a similar modus operandi in Udaipur," a police officer said.
