Gurgaon rain leaves man stranded, he hitches bike ride to reach ‘Rs 300 crore DLF neighbourhood’

Heavy rainfall brought several parts of Gurgaon to a halt, submerging roads and paralysing daily commutes. As images of traffic chaos flooded social media, one commuter's post detailing his rescue from waterlogged streets by a passing rider went viral online.

Trader and YouTuber Manas Arora wrote on X that a rider had come to his aid amid the downpour, transporting him to his residential neighbourhood, a locality he described as being worth Rs 300 crore. He mentioned having to abandon his car on the road during the ordeal. Arora shared a photograph of himself standing beside his vehicle on a fully submerged stretch of road, followed shortly after by a video showing him riding pillion on a stranger's bike as the two carefully navigated through the floodwater.

Users react to the viral post

The post triggered a wave of reactions online. One user questioned the state of the area's drainage infrastructure, asking, "How bad is the drainage there? It's unfathomable to think of this much waterlogging. Something is not right. Is that a low-lying area? Or is it just a few minutes thing?" Another remarked that the "300 CR neighbourhood does not seem worthy enough, looking at this waterlogging."

A third user offered a more sardonic take, calling it a "waterfront apartment complex" in jest, adding "Premium!" A fourth simply wrote, "The struggle is real."

Gurgaon paralysed by Monday's downpour

The wider disruption unfolded on Monday (August 24), when intense rainfall left Gurugram at a standstill. Numerous visuals of the flooded city circulated online, including a widely shared clip showing school buses carrying children stuck on submerged roads. News agency PTI shared the video on X with the caption, "Gurugram: School buses carrying children stranded on waterlogged roads."

In response to the disruption, authorities directed private schools, educational institutions and government schools to switch to online classes on Tuesday (August 25). The city's District Disaster Management Authority additionally issued a work-from-home advisory for the same day.

Announcing the measure on X, the Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram wrote: "Advisory | Work From Home on 25 August 2026. In view of the heavy rainfall in Gurugram on 24 August 2026, there is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic congestion at various locations across the district. All corporate offices, Government and private schools/institutions are advised to guide their employees/staff to work from home on 25 August 2026. The advisory will help reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smooth repair and maintenance works on roads and drains by civic agencies. Citizens are requested to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly."
