Heavy monsoon rain brought Gurugram to a standstill on Tuesday, with waterlogged roads, flooded underpasses and massive traffic jams disrupting normal life across the city. In view of the continuing rain and the likelihood of more downpours, Gurugram Police has advised corporate offices and private establishments to allow employees to work from home (WFH) for the next few days.

The advisory aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety and help emergency services move freely during the ongoing spell of bad weather.

Gurugram Police issues work from home advisory

In its advisory, Gurugram Police said heavy rainfall is likely to continue, increasing the risk of waterlogging and traffic congestion on the city's major roads and intersections.


The police appealed to companies to minimise non-essential travel by allowing employees to work from home wherever possible.

"We strongly urge the corporate sector and private establishments to encourage Work from Home (WFH) arrangements for their employees for the next few days," the advisory said.

According to the police, fewer vehicles on the road will help traffic management teams respond more effectively and ensure emergency services are not delayed.

Heavy rain leaves Gurugram waterlogged

Gurugram received around 82 mm of rainfall during its first spell of heavy monsoon showers on Tuesday afternoon.

The rain caused widespread disruption, with several roads submerged, underpasses flooded and long traffic queues reported across major parts of the city. Some roads also witnessed cave-ins, making commuting even more difficult.

Police step up traffic management

Following the heavy rain, senior police officers visited affected areas to monitor the traffic situation and supervise relief measures.

Additional police personnel have been deployed at key intersections, waterlogged roads and sensitive locations to regulate traffic and restore normal movement as quickly as possible.

The police are also coordinating with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and other departments to remove waterlogging, clear blocked roads and repair damaged stretches.

Rescue teams help stranded motorists

Gurugram Police deployed cranes, recovery vehicles, water pumps and tankers to assist motorists stranded in flooded areas.

Damaged and stranded vehicles were moved to safer locations, while police teams continued to help commuters navigate affected roads.

Officials said police personnel remained on duty despite the challenging weather conditions and worked continuously to ease traffic congestion.

Rain likely to continue

With more rainfall expected over the coming days, Gurugram Police has maintained additional deployment across all zones to respond quickly to any emergency.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, follow traffic advisories and check weather updates before heading out until conditions improve.
