Gurgaon influencer Bobby Kataria smokes on aircraft, gets called out on Twitter

SpiceJet can't seem to catch a break. Amid multiple flight malfunctions, the Indian airline has now become the center of a controversy involving Gurgaon-based influencer Bobby Kataria.

Kataria was spotted on a SpiceJet aircraft, lying across a three-row seat and smoking a cigarette. The video, posted to Twitter, cuts out after a few seconds.



Twitterati quickly alerted Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, asking the BJP leader to ensure action was taken against the influencer.

Kataria has around 6.30 lakh followers and has posted about the tweet and ensuing media reports, calling them an attempt to gain popularity and nothing more.

"Only TRP is needed. Speak anything and keep politicians engaged," Kataria wrote in Hindi.

Smoking inside an aircraft is strictly prohibited due to the fire hazards it poses in the highly pressurised cabin of a plane. In addition, smoking in a closed space is a major inconvenience for fellow passengers.

According to NDTV.com, "appropriate action" has been taken by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security following the incident.
