Heaviest Rain So Far Recorded in South Gujarat and Saurashtra
Rainfall data from the last day shows just how intense the monsoon activity has already been in pockets of the state. Mangrol topped the charts with a staggering 22.20 inches of rain, making it the wettest spot in the state during this spell. Malia Hatina followed with 14.09 inches, while Waghai in Dang district recorded 13.31 inches. The Ambika river belt in Surat district wasn't far behind, logging 13.19 inches of rainfall.These figures point to an unusually aggressive monsoon push, and with more rain-bearing systems active over the region, the IMD says the situation could intensify further before it eases.
Red Alert Declared for 7 Districts and 2 Union Territories
Given the scale of the ongoing rain activity, the Meteorological Department has placed the following areas under a red alert, its highest-level warning reserved for extremely heavy rainfall:- Gir Somnath
- Amreli
- Surat
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Dang
- Tapi
Orange Alert in Several Other Districts
While the red alert zones face the most severe risk, the IMD has also issued an orange alert — indicating a strong likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain — for the following districts:- Dahod
- Chhota Udepur
- Narmada
- Vadodara
- Bharuch
- Bhavnagar
- Rajkot
- Porbandar
- Devbhoomi Dwarka
