Gujarat Weather Update rain alert today
Gujarat's monsoon season has shifted into a much more intense phase, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning residents across several regions to brace for a fresh, powerful spell of rainfall. After a wave of downpours battered parts of south Gujarat and Saurashtra over the past 24 hours, weather officials have now flagged seven districts for a red alert, signalling the possibility of extremely heavy showers, waterlogging, and flood-like conditions in low-lying pockets.

Heaviest Rain So Far Recorded in South Gujarat and Saurashtra

Rainfall data from the last day shows just how intense the monsoon activity has already been in pockets of the state. Mangrol topped the charts with a staggering 22.20 inches of rain, making it the wettest spot in the state during this spell. Malia Hatina followed with 14.09 inches, while Waghai in Dang district recorded 13.31 inches. The Ambika river belt in Surat district wasn't far behind, logging 13.19 inches of rainfall.

These figures point to an unusually aggressive monsoon push, and with more rain-bearing systems active over the region, the IMD says the situation could intensify further before it eases.

Red Alert Declared for 7 Districts and 2 Union Territories

Given the scale of the ongoing rain activity, the Meteorological Department has placed the following areas under a red alert, its highest-level warning reserved for extremely heavy rainfall:

  • Gir Somnath
  • Amreli
  • Surat
  • Navsari
  • Valsad
  • Dang
  • Tapi
Along with these seven districts, the union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman have also been brought under the red alert category. Authorities are urging people in these areas to avoid unnecessary travel, steer clear of rivers and low-lying zones, and stay updated through official weather bulletins.

Orange Alert in Several Other Districts

While the red alert zones face the most severe risk, the IMD has also issued an orange alert — indicating a strong likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain — for the following districts:

  • Dahod
  • Chhota Udepur
  • Narmada
  • Vadodara
  • Bharuch
  • Bhavnagar
  • Rajkot
  • Porbandar
  • Devbhoomi Dwarka
Residents in these regions have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during peak rain hours, as sudden spikes in rainfall intensity can lead to localized flooding and disruption to road traffic.

What This Means for Gujarat Right Now

With the monsoon now firmly active across the state, both south Gujarat and Saurashtra are witnessing back-to-back spells of heavy rain. Rivers and dams in the affected belts are being closely monitored, and local disaster management authorities have been placed on alert in the red-zone districts. Farmers, commuters, and residents in coastal and low-lying areas are advised to keep an eye on official IMD updates over the coming days, as conditions remain dynamic.
