Gujarat weather (April 7): Ahmedabad to remain cloudy today; IMD issues rain and thunderstorm alert in Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Morbi

The weather in Gujarat has taken an unexpected turn in April with cloudy skies, gusty winds and the threat of unseasonal rain returning across large parts of the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, a western disturbance over the Arabian Sea, combined with moisture from the Bay of Bengal, has triggered a sharp atmospheric change, raising the possibility of light rain, thunder and wind speeds of 30 to 40 kmph in several districts on April 7.

Gujarat weather update

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms at isolated places in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch and Narmada; in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, and in Kutch region of Gujarat. In Saurashtra-Kutch, districts such as Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch may also receive light rainfall. The remaining parts of the state are expected to experience dry conditions.

The strongest impact is expected in Saurashtra-Kutch and North Gujarat on Tuesday, with light showers likely in Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Morbi and Kutch. Northern and central districts, including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar, are also likely to witness scattered rainfall. In south and central Gujarat, isolated showers are forecast in Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch and Narmada.

No warnings have been issued for the remaining days, with dry weather expected to prevail across the state before and after this brief spell.

Ahmedabad weather

Maximum temperatures across Gujarat are likely to stay steady for the next three days, before gradually increasing by 2–3°C. In Ahmedabad, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy until the morning of April 7, with the mercury hovering around 36°C. Because of the cloudy and rainy conditions, there will not be a significant rise in temperature over the next two days. No significant change in weather conditions is expected for the subsequent two days beyond April 12, indicating continued dry conditions across Gujarat.

Despite the brief spell of relief, meteorologists say the unstable weather will not last long. From April 8 onward, conditions are expected to turn dry again, with maximum temperatures likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees, bringing back intense summer heat across the state.
