Guinness World Record: Meet world's tallest living domestic cat

The Guinness Book of World Records has officially recognised a cat of the Savannah breed which goes by the name Fenrir Antares Powers, as the tallest living domestic cat in the world.

The cat lives with Dr William John Powers in Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA. People often confuse this domestic animal as a small panther or a puma, or an ocelot. The feline as of January 29, 2021, measures 47.83 cm (18.83 inches).

Actually, Fenrir belongs to a breed which is crossed between a domestic cat and a serval, which is a medium-sized African cat with large ears.


According to the Guinness website, Fenrir acquires its record stature from the F2 Savannah cat breed which is recognised by The International Cat Association. The breed is actually a cross breed between a domestic cat and a serval, which is a medium-sized, large-eared wild African cat. Fenrir’s grandfather was a tall wild serval named Kongo.

“Despite being a descendant of a wild feline, Fenrir is exceptionally tall for his breed, standing one inch taller than average-sized Savannah cats, which typically measure between 14 and 17 inches tall," read the website.

While talking about the special cat, Fenrir's owner Dr William John Powers stated, "Sometimes people see him and think he’s a small panther, a puma, or an ocelot."

Besides Fenrir, there is another cat from his family that also holds a similar title. Fenrir’s sibling, Arcturus, was awarded the same title back in 2016. He measured an amazing 19.05 inches at the time. Unfortunately, the cat isn't alive as it was killed in a house fire, said Dr William.

Late Arcturus still holds the title of the tallest domestic cat in history.

Speaking to Guinness officials, Dr William said, "For someone so obsessed with their cats to have not one, not two, but four Guinness World Records title-holding animals in one lifetime is a bit surreal isn’t it."
