Will GTA 6 be released on PC?
Rockstar Game has confirmed has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will not launch on PC alongside its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S release. The studio has said it is prioritising consoles because that is where most of its players are, although it has confirmed that a PC version will be released at a later date.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, priced at $80. While Rockstar has not announced a PC release date, industry speculation suggests PC players may have to wait until 2028, based on the release pattern of GTA 5, which arrived on PC around 18 months after its console debut.

Former Rockstar producer explains GTA 6 PC release delay

Former Rockstar Games producer John Ricchio has suggested that the delayed PC launch is primarily driven by development priorities rather than a lack of interest in the platform.

Speaking in an interview with Kiwi Talkz on YouTube, Ricchio said Rockstar typically focuses its time and budget on console versions first because of "limited resources." He clarified that the term refers to hardware resources rather than the size of the development team.

Why Rockstar prioritises console development

According to Ricchio, developing for consoles is generally more straightforward because PlayStation and Xbox systems have fixed hardware specifications. He said it is easier to build a game within those hardware constraints before adapting it for the wide range of PC configurations.

Ricchio added that decisions about a PC release are based on whether the additional development time and effort are justified, stressing that Rockstar is not opposed to releasing games on any platform.

Hardware differences influence development strategy

Ricchio noted that hardware limitations have historically influenced Rockstar's release strategy, although the gap between modern consoles and PCs has narrowed with systems such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Even so, he said developers must weigh the resources required for a PC port against other ongoing work, as time and money spent on one project cannot be used elsewhere. He added that a PC version typically moves forward only when there is a strong business case or when the porting process is relatively straightforward, which he said is rarely the case.

No official GTA 6 PC release date yet

Rockstar has not provided a timeline for the PC version of GTA 6. Based on the studio's previous release strategy, including the launch of GTA 5, a PC release is widely expected to follow well after the console version, although no official date has been announced.
