Hanendra Pratap Singh posted on social media that his money was deducted without being invested. He discovered the issue when his sister attempted to redeem the supposed investment. The post, which has since been deleted, was shared in screenshots by other users on X (formerly Twitter).
Groww's Response
In response to the claims, Groww acknowledged an error on Singh's dashboard. The company explained that "the customer's dashboard erroneously reflected a folio" but emphasized that "no transaction took place and no money was deducted from the customer's account." As a gesture of "good faith," Groww credited the claimed amount back to Singh's account. They also requested Singh's bank statement to verify any debit related to the alleged investment.
Official Statement from Groww
On X, Groww assured users that no transaction took place and no money was deducted. They expressed regret for the error and confirmed that the issue had been resolved. The company stated, "We assure everyone that no transaction took place and the customer's money was not deducted from the customer's bank account in the said matter." They added, "To ensure that the investor doesn’t get anxious about the claimed amount, we have credited it to the investor on a good faith basis."
Expert Opinion on Newer Platforms
A securities advisor commented on the incident, highlighting the potential risks associated with newer investment platforms. "While newer platforms can offer innovative solutions and competitive pricing, the potential risks associated with less established brokers should be carefully considered. Investors should always conduct thorough research, considering factors such as regulatory status, user reviews, financial health, and the overall reputation of the broker, before making a decision."
