The incident happened after a dispute over a wedding ritual escalated into a full-blown violence during a marriage procession in Greater Noida's Dadri, police said, adding that two men have been arrested and a case has been registered against 44 people. According to police, the wedding procession had reached Rampur village from Jaganpur village in Dankaur when an argument erupted between members of the same family. The dispute soon escalated into violence.
Police said that the violence was triggered during a ritual traditionally performed by the eldest member of the family during the procession, according to TOI. "An argument broke out over the ritual, after which one group retrieved sticks from their vehicles and attacked the other," a police officer said, adding that all six injured, including a 73-year-old, are undergoing treatment.

All the injured, who belong to the same family, have been admitted to a private hospital and are undergoing treatment in the ICU. Devendra alleged in his complaint: “We had gone for the milni (formal greeting) ceremony when the accused persons, acting in furtherance of a pre-planned conspiracy and with the intention to kill us, surrounded us.” Devendra further alleged that the suspects were armed with pistols, iron rods, lathis, rifles and sharp-edged weapons, as per HT.
Police said the violence was triggered during a ritual traditionally performed by the eldest family member as part of the wedding procession. A video accessed by The Times of India (TOI) shows several men beating a man with sticks in the middle of a road, while a groom’s chariot stands abandoned nearby and wedding music continues to play in the background.
Assistant commissioner of police (Greater Noida) Saumya Singh, told the Hindustan Times: “A distress call was received by the police control room, and a team was dispatched to the spot. The incident took place around 7.30pm. Two men — Jitendra and Yogesh — have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.”
The FIR also refers to an old family rivalry. Devendra told police that Leela’s family had allegedly attempted to kill his relatives last year, a case that is still pending in court. He claimed that the latest attack was a conspiracy linked to the ongoing dispute.
