Gravity defying Naneghat Waterfalls is leaving netizens spellbound

Netizens are enchanted by the viral video of Naneghat Waterfalls in Maharashtra which shows the reverse flow of the waterfall in direction opposite to the gravity as monsoon winds pick speed.

The Naneghat Waterfall in Maharashtra is a mesmerizing sight during the rainy weather and a viral video of the waterfall is winning the internet with its beauty. The video shows the water between the two mountains going up in air rather than falling down due to the high wind speeds.

The rainy season makes the area’s flora and fauna come alive and increase the beauty of the falls. The mountains are covered with lush green vegetation and fluffy clouds floating above the mountains add to the scenic beauty.


Susanta Nanda, an Indian Forest Officer (IFS), shared a video of the waterfall on twitter describing the beauty of the Naneghat Falls during the Monsoons when high speed winds are equal and opposite to the gravitational pull. This brings forth the most amazing sights of the water fall situated in the western ghats range.

The video instantly become an internet fave and has already received over 3.5 lakh views and 16,000 likes since it was shared on Sunday. The social media users were spellbound by the beauty of the Naneghat Falls and made wonderful comments on the video.

While one user called the sight heavenly, the other offered a scientific explanation for the reverse water flow mentioning Newton’s Law of Motion. The law states that an object remains in the same state unless acted upon by an external force, here the force being the high speed winds. In this case, the gravitational pull and the wind force are equal but in directions opposite to each other.
