Govinda’s team dismisses divorce rumours as 'old news', says family will celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi together

The spotlight is once again on Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja’s marriage, but the actor’s team insists there is nothing new about the latest round of speculation.

Reports recently claimed that Sunita had formally filed for divorce on 5 December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion. However, both Govinda’s manager and lawyer have clarified that the matter dates back several months and that things are now “settling down.”

‘Same old news,’ says manager

Speaking to PTI, Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha brushed aside the reports, calling them recycled. “This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Sunita had filed a divorce petition six-seven months ago, now everything is getting settled. In a week or so everyone will hear the news,” he said.


He also stressed that the family was preparing to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi together. “The whole family is going to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival together, for which Sunita is busy doing the preparation,” Sinha added.

Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, also downplayed the fresh headlines, describing them as “old news.” Neither Govinda nor Sunita have issued any public statements in response to the renewed attention.

Marital discord in the public eye

Speculation about their relationship first emerged in February 2024, when it was reported that Sunita had initiated divorce proceedings. At the time, Bindal confirmed she had cited “misunderstandings,” while Govinda’s manager suggested the issues were largely disagreements over his film projects.

The actor himself avoided fuelling the rumours, dismissing the chatter as “business talks.” Sunita, however, made headlines with candid interviews hinting at deep marital discord. In one instance, she even remarked that she would not wish to marry Govinda in her next life.

Nearly four decades together

Govinda and Sunita, married since 1987, have shared 38 years together and are parents to two children, Tina and Yashvardhan. Their relationship has been the subject of speculation on multiple occasions, with whispers of separation resurfacing earlier this year.

Govinda, one of the biggest Bollywood stars of the 1990s, was last seen in Rangeela Raja (2019). In 2024, he also made a political move, joining Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena.

For now, though, his team insists that the focus is not on divorce but on festivities, as the family comes together to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi.
