Govardhan Puja is typically held the day following Diwali Puja and commemorates the day when Lord Krishna conquered God Indra. However, a partial solar eclipse will be seen on the 25th October, the day after Diwali, and the Govardhan Puja, popularly known as Annakoot, will be observed on the 26th October, Wednesday. On Kartik Shukla Pratipada, this puja is performed in line with the Hindu calendar. On this day, green vegetables, gram flour curries, and food composed of grains like wheat and rice are cooked and offered to Lord Krishna. For the Govardhan Puja, annakuts must be prepared, and the shape of the Govardhan is made from cow dung. However, parikrama is not considered part of the Govardhan Puja.

The significance of Govardhan Puja in 2022
According to legend, Shri Krishna ordered the Braj people to worship the Govardhan mountain and cows, which incensed Lord Indra. In his indignation, he let loose such a deluge of rain that the lives of the citizens of Braj were in danger. To protect the Braj people, Brajwasis, and animals, Lord Shri Krishna then lifted the huge Govardhan mountain with his little finger. They spent seven days hiding beneath this mountain. For this reason, during Govardhan Puja, worshipers circumambulate this mountain seven times while carving it out of cow dung.

The list of Govardhan Puja samagri consists of sweets to be offered to the deity, flowers, incense, roli, rice, garlands made of fresh flowers, and cow dung. The panchamrit is produced with honey, curd, and sugar, and the Chappan bhog, which includes 56 different foods, is cooked.
