Govardhan Puja 2022: Greetings, wishes, WhatsApp messages, and SMSs to share with your loved ones

Today October 26, is the day of Govardhan Puja. The day following Diwali is the usual day to observe Govardhan Puja or Annakoot. But because of a partial solar eclipse on the day following Diwali, i.e., October 25, the Govardhan Puja was pushed by a day.

According to belief, it is this day Sri Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain with his little finger to safeguard the Braj people and animals from the wrath of Lord Indra. For seven long days, people and animals took shelter beneath the mountain. Because of these reasons, people carve out the mountain of cow dung and circumambulate it seven times in order to worship it.

The puja involves the creation of Govardhan’s shape using cow dung and the preparation of annakuts.

According to Hindu mythology, it’s on Pratipada Tithi of Kartik month that the Govardhan Puja should be performed. The muhurat for this puja is from 6:29 am to 8:43 am on October 26.
