Google's dodddle celebrating Republic Day 26.
Google marked India’s 77th Republic Day with a space-themed doodle that spotlighted the Indian Space Research Organisation, highlighting a year marked by ambitious missions and rising global attention on India’s space programme.

The illustration featured satellites, orbital paths and space-inspired visuals integrated into the letters of “Google”, creating a design that reflected India’s expanding presence beyond Earth. While Google did not provide a detailed explanation of the artwork, the visual elements clearly pointed to space exploration, with the tribute appearing to reference headline missions such as Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan that have kept ISRO in international focus.

The doodle was released as ISRO prepares for an active period ahead, with plans for multiple satellite deployments in 2026 as the agency scales up operations. ISRO chief V Narayanan said a large number of satellite launches are being planned and that extensive preparatory work is underway.

The timing of the tribute aligned with Republic Day celebrations that increasingly underscore India’s technological confidence alongside its cultural legacy.

In contrast, Google’s Republic Day 2025 doodle focused on India’s biodiversity. Designed by Pune-based artist Rohan Dahotre, the artwork featured wildlife from across the country, including a peacock, crocodile, snow leopard, tiger and antelope, reflecting ecological richness. The 2026 design, by comparison, shifted attention to scientific ambition.

Republic Day marks the adoption of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950, nearly three years after Independence, replacing colonial-era laws and formally establishing India as a sovereign democratic republic. The date also commemorates the Purna Swaraj declaration of January 26, 1930, when Indian leaders demanded complete independence from British rule, and stands as a reminder of the principles of democracy, justice, equality and unity.

This year’s parade will feature 30 tableaux under the themes “Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram” and “Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat”, marking 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram while showcasing India’s cultural diversity, defence strength and technological progress.
