Google employees demand resignation of CEO Sundar Pichai

Employees were sent an automated mail informing the disheartening news. Their accounts were also deactivated at 3 am in the morning. The dejected employees have expressed their disappointment over the step taken while they were asleep, without any prior information.

In a post shared on Twitter, Alphabet Workers Union points out the anomalous behaviour for a company that made a profit of $17B last quarter. They also expressed their sorrow on the issue. Employees, who are grieving, have expressed their pain on Twitter, indicating their interest for other opportunities. Katie McCauley, an employee impacted by the layoff, writes that she has only two months to find a role internally, and that she would really love to stay. She also expressed her openness to starting conversations with a company looking for someone with her level of expertise.


Another employee who was laid off, Pulkit Pahwa, wrote on LinkedIn that they never expected Google to carry out mass layoffs like other big tech companies. She was was the Business Operations Lead Program Manager, Machine Learning Fleet at Google.

Big Tech employees are facing a hard time since the preceding year. In October 2022, Twitter became the first of the big tech companies to start mass layoffs. Soon, Meta and Amazon followed.
