Blowing hooters or sirens for extra fun during Holi celebrations could cost you Rs 10,000 this year in Noida, reported ToI.

DCP (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav said the traffic police will take strict action against those caught using sirens, driving recklessly, or under the influence. Offenders will be fined under Section 190 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

"Special teams will be deployed at key locations to monitor traffic movement and prevent violations," the DCP said.

Drunk and drive cases:

A special drive to combat drunk driving will be conducted throughout the week, with checkpoints set up at major intersections. Breathalyser tests will be carried out to curb violations of driving under the influence.

Reckless driving has been a significant factor in road accidents in the region. In 2024, from Jan to Dec, the police recorded 1,165 accidents, resulting in 462 deaths and 966 injuries. The authorities also issued 28 lakh challans, including 86,890 for speeding, 1,71,747 for wrong-side driving, and 532 for drunken driving.

The increased vigilance aims to curb the rising number of traffic violations and road accidents in Noida.

Permits for pool parties

The GB Nagar sports department has banned Holi parties at sports grounds in Noida and Greater Noida and made it mandatory for residential societies to seek permission before hosting swimming pool parties.

The district has around 150 registered sports grounds designated for activities like cricket and football.

Deputy sports officer Anita Nagar stated that notices have been issued to owners of sports grounds where Holi celebrations with music performances were planned.

"Sports grounds meant for cricket or football cannot be used for such gatherings. It is disrespectful to both the sport and the ground. We have sought clarification and instructed them to cancel such events immediately," she said.
