With the training already in full swing, it was revealed on Friday that Goa beaches are set to get a ‘paw squad’ consisting of 11 dogs. In the first-of-a-kind initiative, an official of an agency tasked with lifesaving operations in the coastal state said on Friday that the beaches in the coastal state will now get dogs trained in spotting and recusing people in distress. Moreover, they would also locate missing children.

The Drishti Marine official said in the presence of state tourism minister Rohan Khaunte, further revealed that the dogs are being trained to spot and rescue victims in distress, search and rescue in rocky areas and locate missing children at the beaches. He added that the paw squad is getting their training from canine expert Arjun Shawn Moitra and will be deployed first at high-density beaches.

Khaunte lauded the initiative and stated that new technologies and innovations are constantly deployed to carry on such tasks.

Using artificial intelligence, the Drishti Marine spokesperson also said that final touches were being given to two AI monitoring systems named Aurus and Triton, to assist lifesavers at beaches.

According to the spokesperson, the Triton monitoring system, powered by artificial intelligence, and the Aurus self-driving robot will enhance the life-saving capabilities on the beaches of Goa. They both have the ability to observe the surroundings, evaluate potential dangers, and provide real-time information to aid on-duty lifesavers in responding more quickly.

Currently, the Aurus is being tested as a pilot project at Miramar Beach in North Goa to assist with beach closures, while Triton is being tested at Baina, Velsao, Benaulim, Galgibag, and Morjim beaches in South and North Goa.
