Ghaziabad reel craze gone wrong: 19-year-old girl dies, friend critical as sports bike hits divider; video captures seconds before the deadly clash

What started as a fun ride soon turned into a tragedy after a 19-year-old died and her friend sustained critical injuries when their sports bike stuck a divider on NH-9 in Ghaziabad. The accident occurred early Sunday in the Wave City police station area, a video of which has gone viral on social media. Ikra, 19, was riding a Yamaha R-15, and her 20-year-old friend, Hashim, was sitting behind her and neither of them were wearing a helmet, the video shows.

Ikra and Hashim were filming a reel during the ride as the girl rode fast which led to the deadly collision. A video taken right before the collision has gone viral on social media. In the footage, Ikra is seen speeding while Hashim captures the event, seconds before the deadly crash.

Police have recovered a 30-second video from Haseem’s phone, reports TOI's Avishek Kumar. According to police, Ikra and Hashim left their houses without informing their family.

Hashim's father, Kamruddin, stated that his son had taken the bike from the house. When he found out that Hashim was with a girl from the neighborhood, he dialed him. The boy informed him that they had gone out and would return soon. However, they did not return. On Sunday morning, the family learned of the accident.


ACP Wave City Priyashri Pal told TOI that a passerby informed the police at 4.25am on Sunday that a bike had collided with a divider near the Misalgarhi underpass. A police team reached the spot and took the injured people to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the girl dead. Haseem sustained critical injuries in the crash, is undergoing treatment and remains in a serious condition.

“They left their homes at 11 am on Saturday. Their families were not able to contact them. No complaint has been filed, but an investigation is underway,” ACP Wave City Priyashri Pal told Times of India. This incident highlights Ghaziabad's concerning road accidents statistics.
