In a tragic incident, A 12-year-old girl was killed while four persons were injured in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district after being struck by lightning on Friday. The incident occurred in the Makanpur area of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad district on Friday morning.

As per Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinay Kumar Singh said Ajmerul (12), the girl died on the spot when a tree she was standing under was struck by lightning. Jasmine (17), Azmeri Khatoon (35), Shalo (40), and Shabana (30) who were also present at the spot sustained injuries.

Earlier this month, 12 people were killed in Odisha in a lightning strike. Infact, hundreds of people lose their lives to lightning strikes every year in India. Just earlier this week, four persons, three of them from a family, were killed and seven others injured in two incidents of lightning strike in adjoining villages in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh.


Meanwhile, the national capital Delhi received showers at some places Saturday morning to much relief of its residents who were troubled by a stifling heat for the past few days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in the city on Saturday settled at 26.9 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average,

Delhi recorded 0.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am. The relative humidity was recorded at 85 per cent at 8.30 am. The IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies with light rain during the day.

The India Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rain in several states. The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall over north Madhya Maharashtra on Saturday, Gujarat region during Saturday and September 18 with exceptionally heavy rainfall (>30 cm) at one or two places over southwest Madhya Pradesh and east Gujarat Region on Saturday.

In Central and West India, the weather forecast predicts light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms that are expected to be fairly widespread to widespread. Additionally, there is a likelihood of lightning, along with isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
