What Police Found
The accused, Praveen Kumar, checked into a hotel with his partner, Aarti, on Saturday night. When police reached the hotel after a call to the emergency helpline around 7 am on Sunday, they found the woman dead inside the room.
Post-Mortem Reveals Brutal Assault
An autopsy revealed that the woman died due to shock and haemorrhage caused by ante-mortem injuries, officials said. The post-mortem report found multiple rib fractures, ruptured lungs and liver, and extensive internal bleeding in the chest and abdomen, indicating a severe physical assault.
Relationship and Background
Investigators said the woman was a widow who lived in Ghaziabad with her teenage son. Kumar was known to the family and had earlier been a friend of her late husband. During questioning, Kumar told police that he had been in a relationship with the woman for about one-and-a-half years.
According to police, the couple consumed alcohol in the hotel room before an argument broke out late Saturday night. The dispute reportedly escalated after Kumar suspected the woman of being in contact with another man. Police said the argument turned violent, with Kumar allegedly repeatedly hitting her on the ribs using his fists and elbows.
The assault is believed to have occurred around midnight. The woman later lost consciousness and did not respond, police said.
Attempt to Leave Hotel Raised Suspicion
Police said Kumar remained in the room overnight and later attempted to leave the hotel early Sunday morning without informing staff. When hotel employees stopped him, he claimed his companion was unwell. Staff then checked the room, found the woman unresponsive, and asked him to inform the police.
