Gangs of Wasseypur director Anurag Kashyap’s Bengaluru home features extensive DVD, Blu-ray and CD collection, cosy low seating, vintage cane furniture, bold rust and teal accents and a balcony opening into a dense tropical green canopy

Anurag Kashyap’s Bengaluru home offers a glimpse into the filmmaker’s personal world, blending earthy tones, vintage-inspired furniture, extensive film collections and books. The minimal yet warm interiors reflect his love for cinema and an understated aesthetic.

Kashyap and his partner, Shubhra Shetty, recently hosted film journalist Janice Sequeira, offering her a look at their home in a lush, green gated society.

An earthy, minimal dining space

The dining area features a solid light-oak table surrounded by rust-orange upholstered chairs, an armchair and a ribbed corduroy bench finished with leather straps. Four tall, light-wood bookcases line the wall behind the table, filled with books, media collections, framed artwork and ceramic vases. Cream marble flooring, neutral walls and plants in terracotta pots add warmth to the space.

A relaxed living room with vintage touches

The living room follows a similarly relaxed aesthetic. A plush light-yellow sectional takes centre stage, complemented by a brown suede lounge daybed and two mid-century-style woven cane armchairs with rust-coloured cushions. A square dark-wood coffee table and a round fluted-oak table sit over a large grey-brown rug laid across the marble floor.

Floor-to-ceiling glass patio doors allow natural light to enter the room and are framed by rich teal curtains. A wall-mounted television, low storage credenzas and indoor plants add to the space’s lived-in feel.

A console nook filled with books and films

A separate console nook continues the film-and-book theme. A long, dark-wood console is filled with box sets, Blu-rays and books, while framed abstract textured artwork hangs above it. Stacked books, a potted pothos and a white vase holding a palm plant complete the arrangement. A retro cream-and-brown geometric rug adds another vintage touch.

A dedicated media room and library

One of the most distinctive areas of the home is the media room and library nook. Floor-to-ceiling dark-wood shelves cover an entire wall, displaying an extensive collection of DVDs, Blu-rays and CDs. The sheer volume of physical media reflects Kashyap’s fondness for cinema.

The seating in the room is low and informal, with a forest-green patterned chaise lounge, a yellow patterned daybed and a beige sofa. Deep wood tones and layered textiles give the space a cosy, relaxed feel.

A contemporary kitchen

The kitchen, meanwhile, brings a more contemporary look to the home. It features modern light-wood lower cabinets and full-height pantry units paired with matte-white upper cabinets. A wide central island with a polished black granite countertop dominates the space, with open shelving underneath and a prominent black box chimney hood above it.

White quartz countertops, a dishwasher and open wooden shelving for spices add to the kitchen’s functional design, while light ceramic floor tiles keep the space bright.

A balcony surrounded by greenery

The home also opens out to a modern balcony with white tiles and a seamless glass railing. Beyond it, a dense canopy of tropical trees creates a lush green backdrop for the outdoor space.
