Why Ganesh Chaturthi is Celebrated

The festival has deep historical roots. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj promoted Ganesh Chaturthi during the Maratha Empire to encourage social unity and devotion. The Legend of Lord Ganesha’s Birth

According to Hindu scriptures, Goddess Parvati created Ganesha from turmeric paste and assigned him the task of guarding her while she bathed. When Lord Shiva returned and was denied entry, a confrontation ensued. Shiva, unaware, severed Ganesha’s head. Seeing Parvati’s grief, Shiva revived Ganesha with an elephant’s head, blessing him to be worshipped first among all gods.
