On September 9, the 10-day festival dedicated to Lord Ganesh draws to a close with the Ganesh Visarjan, also referred to as Anant Chaturdashi.

Worshippers of the elephant god bid farewell to their deity on this day, with promises of him returning the following year. This year, festivities began on August 31 and will conclude on Friday.

According to the Hindu calendar, the festival falls on the fourth day of the sixth month of the lunar calendar.

It is the fourteenth day of the month when the ten-day long extravaganza comes to an end, and that day is called Chaturdashi.

The end of one phase - worshipping Ganapti - brings the start of another - the time of Vishnu worship, hence the name Anant Chaturdasi.

According to India mythos, Sushila took a vow after her marriage to Kaundinya and sought blessings from Lord Vishnu for a prosperous life, marking the Vishu worship season.
