Stock markets
Indian stock markets, including the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), will remain closed on Wednesday, October 2, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra. No trading will take place across equity, derivatives, or securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on this day. However, trading in currency and interest rate derivatives segments will continue as usual.
Banks
All banks across India will be shut for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday.Liquor shops:

Durga Puja in West Bengal has brought the longest school break in the state, with institutions officially closed from September 26 to October 7. Heavy rainfall and flooding in Kolkata and nearby areas led to additional closures on September 24 and 25. Schools are expected to reopen only after October 7, giving students and staff ample time to take part in rituals and cultural programmes.In Andhra Pradesh, government schools will remain shut for Dussehra from September 22 to October 2, 2025. The decision came after Members of the Legislative Council appealed to HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, showing how political lobbying has influenced the academic calendar.
Telangana schools have been closed since September 21 and will resume classes on October 3 as per the state’s academic calendar, which allows time for local festival celebrations.
In Uttar Pradesh, holiday schedules vary across districts. Many schools will be shut from September 27 to October 2, covering both Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti, while some districts will have shorter breaks. Parents have been advised to check with their respective schools for exact dates.
In Bihar and Jharkhand, schools are closed from September 27 and will reopen only after October 2. Assam and Odisha follow varying schedules depending on the district and type of school, with changes often made to align with local festivals or administrative requirements.
