On Saturday, the movie 'Gadar 2' achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the Rs 300-crore mark at the domestic box office. Impressively, the film also secured the title of being the highest-grossing Bollywood film on Independence Day, amassing a substantial Rs 55.40 crore in collections.

Directed by Anil Sharma, 'Gadar 2' serves as a sequel to the acclaimed movie released in 2001. The original featured Sunny Deol as Tara, a truck driver, and Ameesha Patel as Sakina, set against the backdrop of India's partition in 1947.

In the sequel, set in the year 1971, "Gadar 2" continues the narrative as Tara Singh (portrayed by Sunny Deol) embarks on a mission to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh, essayed by Utkarsh Sharma, from the clutches of the Pakistani Army. The earlier film was also rooted in the partition era.

The makers are now targeting the Rs. 400 club. Although 'Gadar 2' isn't expected to reach the Rs 450-500 crore mark, the film's creators are already celebrating having produced it for Rs 75 crore.
