Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands has been targeted in a deepfake pornography attack, where her face was digitally placed on porn actors’ bodies using artificial intelligence. The videos were shared on platforms such as MrDeepFakes, which has since been shut down, according to a report in the Daily Beast.

FBI and Dutch authorities involved

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Dutch authorities worked together to take down the websites hosting these videos. MrDeepFakes and similar sites also circulated AI-generated pornographic content involving around 70 other Dutch women. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Previous attacks reported

The Dutch news website Seher Og Hor reported that Catharina-Amalia had a “starring role” in these deepfakes. This is not the first time she has been targeted. In 2022, morphed videos of the princess were also circulated online.

Who is Princess Catharina-Amalia?

Catharina-Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria, born on 7 December 2003 in The Hague, is the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. As the Princess of Orange, she is the heir to the Dutch throne, a title she has held since her father’s accession in April 2013.

Academic focus on deepfakes

Ironically, Catharina-Amalia’s academic work has touched on the same issue that has affected her. She studied Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) at the University of Amsterdam beginning in 2022. Her bachelor’s thesis, “Beyond Disclosure: Bridging the Gap Between the Artificial Intelligence Act and the Charter of Fundamental Rights with Deepfaked Bodies,” examined the conflict between AI legislation and European fundamental rights.
