From snooze to seize: Murshidabad's viral bed on wheels gets the brake as police say 'no'
A 27-year-old from Murshidabad gained viral fame for his mobile bed on wheels, but it was seized by police for violating the Motor Vehicles Act. Despite the setback, his innovative creation attracted millions of views online, although copyright co...

Nawab Sheikh, a pool car driver by day, designed a fully functional bed cart that could be driven just like any other vehicle.
According to TOI, the quirky contraption featured a 5x7 ft mattress, pillows, bed sheets, and even a driver’s seat tucked near the pillow area, complete with a steering wheel, rear-view mirrors, and a brake system.
The sight of the ‘bed cart’ cruising between Raninagar and Domkal quickly attracted a crowd, often causing traffic jams. Videos of the vehicle went viral, with over 2.4 crore views on Nawab’s Facebook page and another 20 crore views on a Bangladeshi media channel.
Nawab shared that the project took him more than 1.5 years to complete, said the report.
Despite earning only Rs 9,000 a month, Nawab managed to fund the project by selling his wife’s jewellery.
TOI reported that he finished the bed cart just in time for Eid and showcased it on the festival day, ignoring police advice to avoid the busy state highway due to potential crowding issues.
However, his moment of glory quickly soured when a Bangladeshi media channel uploaded the video just hours after Nawab shared it, leading to copyright complaints and the suspension of his Facebook account.
Ilias Kanchan, Nawab’s cousin and former Domkal municipality councillor, praised his creativity.
Police mentioned that Nawab didn’t have the necessary documents or permission to operate the modified vehicle on public roads. As a result, the bed cart has been impounded, and further action will be taken after the investigation.
