From joining to quitting in a week: Employee allegedly creates and uses 100% discount codes to order shoes worth Rs 2 lakh

A startling case of internal fraud has surfaced at an Indian startup, where a newly hired employee allegedly generated 100 per cent discount codes and used them to purchase shoes worth Rs 2 lakh.

The incident was shared publicly by Arjun Singh, co-founder of Gully Labs, on X (formerly Twitter).

Co-Founder Shares Details of the Incident

Explaining what happened, Arjun wrote: "We hired a CS person a couple of months ago. Within the first week of joining he made INR 2L of 100% discount orders - sent to his friends and quit in a week," Arjun revealed.


According to him, the employee resigned shortly after placing the orders, leaving the company to absorb the financial loss.


Arjun further disclosed that once confronted, the employee initially agreed to cooperate and returned half of the ordered shoes. However, the remaining items had already been used.

He added: "Then he started sending legal notices that we were harassing him in response to our notice to return the products or reimburse us!"

"So now - we are enabling permissioning on our backend etc. amongst other things."
