A young engineer from India has caught attention online after sharing how uncertainty during college led him to land a role at Google. Lakshya Kapur, who studied at Vellore Institute of Technology, said he once felt completely directionless but is now working as a Digital Business Marketing apprentice in Mumbai. Kapur said his college years were filled with self-doubt. While many around him focused on coding and campus placements, he struggled to find his own path. He admitted that watching peers move ahead with clarity made him question whether he was doing something wrong or missing out on the “right” route.

Final year gamble changed everything

Things began to shift in his final year when he decided to stop overthinking and try something different. Instead of chasing a fixed goal, he started experimenting.

He worked on a startup idea, not because he had a clear plan, but simply out of curiosity. That decision slowly opened new doors.

Interest found through action, not planning

Through hands-on work, Kapur discovered his interest in digital marketing, branding and creative fields.

He highlighted that clarity did not come from sitting and thinking endlessly. Instead, it came from trying things, making mistakes, and learning along the way. Even as doubts continued, he chose to keep moving forward.

Before joining Google, Kapur built his profile through internships in digital marketing. He also stayed active in student activities during his time at university, which helped him gain practical exposure beyond academics.

“This is just the beginning,” he says

Kapur described his new role as just a starting point rather than a final achievement. He encouraged others who feel stuck or confused to keep exploring and take small steps instead of waiting for perfect clarity.

His LinkedIn post quickly gained traction, with many users saying they saw their own struggles reflected in his journey. Several praised his honesty about confusion, calling it a refreshing break from typical success stories that focus only on results.

At a time when career paths often seem predefined, Kapur’s experience highlights a different approach — moving ahead without having everything figured out. His story suggests that uncertainty, when handled with action, can sometimes lead to unexpected opportunities.
