From being unemployed to earning nearly ₹50,000 per month: How a scooter changed the fortune of this UP worker

A casual roadside interaction shared by Akash Gupta, Founder and CEO of Zypp Electric, has drawn attention to how India’s growing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem is opening up new income avenues for young workers, particularly those from rural areas.

From Unemployment to Daily Earnings of ₹1,500

In a video posted online, Gupta speaks with a young delivery executive from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, who had recently moved to the city in search of work. The youth explained that he was previously unemployed in his hometown but is now earning around ₹1,500 per day by delivering orders for e-commerce platforms using a rented electric scooter.

He further shared that he pays a weekly rental of ₹2,100 for the vehicle, which comes to about ₹300 per day. After deducting this cost, he is still left with a strong net daily income.

Monthly Income and Family Support

Based on his current earnings, it was noted that his monthly income could go up to ₹45,000. When asked how he plans to use the money, the young man said he sends nearly all of his earnings back home to support his family in Firozabad.

EV Rentals Lowering Entry Barriers

The conversation highlights how affordable electric scooter rentals are reducing the entry barriers for gig-economy jobs. This shift is helping workers secure relatively stable incomes while also enabling them to financially support households in rural areas.
