Speaking to BBC News, Captain Jimmy Reid described the moment Bruce was finally brought to safety. "I went through this heart-wrenching thing of thinking the dog was going to go in the water and stay there," he said. "So, when we actually got him on board and knew he was safe and knew the hard bit was over, we were both very elated."

Reid added that he was "ecstatic" after the successful rescue.

According to the tour company, the rescue began when they received a coastguard call reporting that an inflatable kayak carrying a dog had been blown out to sea by strong winds.

The company later explained the situation in a statement, saying that what started as a routine day around the Farne Islands quickly turned into an emergency operation. As the crew headed towards the reported location, they worked carefully to bring the frightened dog to safety.

However, the rescue did not go entirely to plan. The company revealed that when crew members initially grabbed Bruce by his harness, he slipped free and fell back into the sea.

The situation became even more tense when Bruce ended up back in the water. According to the tour company, crew member Aaron reacted instantly.

"Without hesitation, Aaron lunged over the side and grabbed the dog by the scruff of its neck," the company said.

Thanks to the crew's quick thinking, Bruce was finally lifted aboard the vessel. Cold, soaked and visibly shaken from the ordeal, the dog was wrapped in towels to help him recover after spending time exposed to the harsh sea conditions.
