Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt wants you to stop writing codes, says the era is already over
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt declared the era of traditional coding is over, stating AI has dramatically accelerated software development. He warned developers and company leaders to adapt to AI-powered tools or risk falling behind. This shift p...

Schmidt claimed the transformation began accelerating late last year as AI coding systems became dramatically more powerful. His message to engineers was blunt: if you're still coding the same way you were six months ago, you're already outdated.
Recalling his early years in tech, Schmidt said he once believed manually writing software made him “the hottest thing ever” at 20. But after seeing what modern AI tools can now build, he admitted the technology has completely changed the game.
“If you're writing code in any traditional way: stop. It's over,” Schmidt said, adding that AI systems today can generate software at a level that even veteran engineers find shocking.
He also urged company leaders to rethink how their software teams operate. According to Schmidt, managers should now be asking developers why they are still using old coding methods when AI can dramatically speed up development.
The biggest disruption, he argued, will be productivity. Software creation — long considered one of the world economy’s biggest bottlenecks — could now become exponentially faster with AI-assisted development. Tasks that once required large engineering teams may soon be handled by individuals using advanced AI tools.
Schmidt believes this shift could completely reshape the tech industry, with many existing software products at risk of becoming obsolete as AI makes rebuilding and replacing applications easier than ever.
His warning to companies was clear: adapt quickly or risk getting left behind in the AI revolution.
