FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 action produced thrilling contests as Mexico, England, Belgium and the United States secured places in the Round of 16.

Mexico 2-0 Ecuador

Co-hosts Mexico ended a 40-year wait for a FIFA World Cup knockout-stage victory by defeating Ecuador 2-0 at the Azteca Stadium.


The Round of 32 match was delayed by an hour due to stormy weather, but Mexico made a flying start once play began. Julian Quinones opened the scoring with a powerful first-half strike before setting up Raul Jimenez for the second goal.

Mexico comfortably controlled the second half to seal their first World Cup knockout win since defeating Bulgaria in 1986. The victory also extended their unbeaten run at the Azteca to 10 World Cup matches.

Mexico will face England in the Round of 16.

England 2-1 DR Congo

England survived a major upset scare to beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 and advance to the Round of 16.

Brian Cipenga stunned England by scoring in the seventh minute after a swift counterattack. DR Congo frustrated England throughout the first half with disciplined defending and aggressive pressing, taking a surprise 1-0 lead into the break.

Captain Harry Kane came to England's rescue in the second half, scoring twice to complete the comeback and book his side's place in the Round of 16, where they will meet Mexico.

Belgium 3-2 Senegal (after extra time)

Belgium produced one of the tournament's most dramatic comebacks, recovering from two goals down to defeat Senegal 3-2 after extra time.

Senegal appeared to be heading for victory after goals from Habib Diarra and Ismaila Sarr gave them a 2-0 advantage. However, Belgium struck twice in the closing minutes of normal time through Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans to force extra time.

The decisive moment came in the 125th minute when Tielemans converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review, sealing Belgium's remarkable comeback.

Belgium will face the United States in the Round of 16.

United States 2-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina

Co-hosts the United States secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina to reach the Round of 16.

Folarin Balogun gave the Americans the lead before being sent off in the second half. Despite playing with 10 men, the USA sealed the win through Malik Tillman's free-kick goal.

The United States will now take on Belgium in the Round of 16.
