Argentina's Lionel Messi is thrown in the air in celebration by teammates after the match as Argentina qualify for the quarter finals of the World Cup
The FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal line-up has been finalised after Argentina and Switzerland secured the last two remaining spots in the tournament's final eight. Argentina staged a dramatic comeback victory over Egypt in the Round of 16, with Lionel Messi once again delivering a match-winning performance, while Switzerland edged past Colombia 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

The quarterfinal stage features several of world football's biggest names along with surprise contenders hoping to make history. Morocco, the first African nation to reach a FIFA World Cup semifinal in 2022, Belgium, Norway, and Switzerland all remain in contention for their maiden World Cup title, setting up an exciting knockout phase.

France vs Morocco (July 10, 1:30 AM IST)

Defending European giants France will face Morocco in the opening quarterfinal. Led by Kylian Mbappe, France will aim to continue its title challenge against a Moroccan side that has once again emerged as one of the tournament's biggest surprise packages.

Mbappe, who has scored 19 FIFA World Cup goals, will also be looking to close the gap on Lionel Messi's tournament record of 21 World Cup goals. Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi will hope to guide his side to another historic victory after the team's memorable run to the semifinals in 2022.

Spain vs Belgium (July 11, 12:30 AM IST)

Spain will take on Belgium in the second quarterfinal as both teams chase a place in the last four. After winning the World Cup in 2010, Spain struggled in the following editions, but a new generation featuring Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Gavi, Rodri, and Nico Williams has reignited hopes of another deep tournament run.

Belgium, meanwhile, will rely on the experience of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne as they continue their pursuit of a first FIFA World Cup title. Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon has been one of the tournament's standout performers, keeping clean sheets in all five matches so far.

Norway vs England (July 12, 2:30 AM IST)

One of the most anticipated quarterfinals will see Norway face England. Norway striker Erling Haaland enters the match with seven goals and remains one of the favourites for the Golden Boot.

England captain Harry Kane has scored six times in the tournament and will lead his side alongside midfielder Jude Bellingham, who has contributed four goals. The clash promises a battle between two of international football's most dangerous attacking teams.

Argentina vs Switzerland (July 12, 6:30 AM IST)

Argentina will meet Switzerland in the final quarterfinal after surviving a tense Round of 16 encounter against Egypt. Lionel Messi's side overturned a two-goal deficit with a remarkable late scoring burst to keep its title hopes alive.

The tournament has already produced several surprises, including the eliminations of Germany and the Netherlands, and Switzerland will be hoping to add another upset. Argentina will once again look to Messi to inspire the team as he aims to extend his remarkable World Cup scoring streak and guide the defending champions into the semifinals.
