South Indian megastar Chiranjeevi has sparked controversy over his comments at the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam, where he was the chief guest. Videos from the event circulating on social media show the veteran actor expressing his desire for a grandson to carry forward his family legacy, a remark that netizens have criticised as "sexist."

During the event, Chiranjeevi joked about feeling like a "warden of a ladies' hostel" at home as he is surrounded by granddaughters. He can be heard saying, "I keep wishing and telling Ram Charan, at least this time, have a boy so that our legacy continues. But his daughter is the apple of his eye... I'm scared that he might have another girl."

Chiranjeevi has two daughters, Sreeja Konidela and Sushmita Konidela. Sreeja is a mother of two daughters, Navishka and Nivrati, while Sushmita has daughters, Samara and Samhitha. His son, Ram Charan, and daughter-in-law, Upasana, welcomed their baby girl on 20 June 2023.

At the time of her birth, Chiranjeevi had expressed his joy on X, writing, "Welcome, Little Mega Princess! You have spread cheer among the Mega Family of millions on your arrival, just as you have made the blessed parents @AlwaysRamCharan & @upasanakonidela and us grandparents happy and proud!!"

While many fans on social media supported his words as playful banter, others criticised them, arguing that such statements reinforce outdated gender preferences. Social media users called out his remarks, saying they undermine the value of daughters.
